The Climate Council has found South Australia as the overall winner in its annual Renewable Energy Report Card.

“The Marshall Government’s $200 million Home Battery Scheme, $50 million Grid Scale Storage fund and $30 million Demand Management trials are driving our transition to more affordable and reliable clean power,” South Australian Minister for Energy, Dan van Holst Pellekaan, said.

“The SA/NSW interconnector is another vital component of our energy plan and will provide a freeway to the eastern seaboard for our abundant renewable energy, creating jobs and investment in South Australia.

“In partnership with industry, the Marshall Government is creating the jobs of the future by leading the nation in the transition to cheaper more reliable renewable energy.

“The cost of electricity is embedded in virtually everything we produce, and the delivery of cheaper, more reliable electricity will give South Australian goods a significant advantage in local, national and international markets.”

The South Australian Government recently granted $15 million to help fund the expansion and broadening the services of Neoen’s 100MW/129MWh Hornsdale Power Reserve.

Mr van Holst Pellekaan said, “This is a world-leading demonstration of how grid scale storage can provide inertia, voltage and frequency control, grid management and cost reduction.

“The Marshall Government’s Home Battery Scheme is another world leading renewable energy management programme that is improving the reliability and affordability of electricity for South Australian households.

“The Home Battery Scheme has resulted in sonnen and Alpha-ESS establishing manufacturing facilities in Adelaide and 100 local system providers qualifying to sell and install batteries under the scheme.

“After 12 months more than 4000 South Australian households have taken up the Marshall Government’s subsidy of up $6000 per household towards the cost of a new home battery.”
