Western Australian Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation, Amber-Jade Sanderson, has announced a key appointment to the board of the state’s government-owned electricity corporation.
Michael Barnes has been appointed as Western Power’s new Deputy Chair.
The State Government said Mr Barnes’ 11 years of experience as the state’s Under Treasurer makes him uniquely placed to drive Western Power through this critical period in the state’s energy transition.
Ms Sanderson congratulated Mr Barnes on his appointment.
“After many years as Under Treasurer, I am pleased that Western Power will be able to harness his valuable experience as it navigates the clean energy transition.
“Western Power has a critical role to play in making Western Australia a clean energy powerhouse and I am confident that Michael’s leadership will help drive us towards achieving our Made in WA plan.”
The Western Power Board also farewelled long-standing board member Eva Skira, who left the board at the end of her final term.
“I would also like to thank Eva Skira for her contribution to the organisation over many years,” Ms Sanderson said.
The Western Australian Government said as the utility that operates the electricity network and is a critical enabler of new renewable energy generation and economic development, investment in Western Power’s network will be central to the energy transition and the delivery of the State Government’s Made in WA plan.
