Western Australian Premier, Roger Cook, has announced the new portfolio allocations for the state’s Cabinet, including the appointment of a new Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation.

Amber-Jade Sanderson will take over from current Western Australian Minister for Energy, Reece Whitby.
The Cabinet features several new portfolios to deliver the Premier’s vision for the state, including a key focus on establishing Western Australia as a renewable energy powerhouse.
Mr Cook said, “In these globally uncertain times, my priority is to make the Western Australian economy more resilient.”
He said establishing the state as a renewable energy powerhouse will drive Western Australia’s commitment to exit coal fired power generation, help its trading partners to decarbonise and ensure secure and affordable energy for all residents.
“My new Cabinet will work hard to deliver real cost of living relief to Western Australians, including through our household battery rebate.”
The Australian Energy Council (AEC) congratulated Ms Sanderson on her appointment.
The AEC also acknowledged and thanked Mr Whitby for his stewardship of the portfolio.
AEC Chief Executive, Louisa Kinnear, said Ms Sanderson’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Western Australia.
“There is an urgent need for transmission planning and investment to unlock new generation in the South West Interconnected System, as well as continued guidance on the future energy market to ensure a reliable and affordable system for consumers and industry.
“Ms Sanderson’s appointment comes at a critical time for the state and offers an opportunity to address key issues that could hinder further progress toward net zero,” Ms Kinnear said.
“The AEC looks forward to collaborating with Ms Sanderson on the decarbonisation of Western Australia’s electricity supply.”
