The Victorian Government has released the 2025 Victorian Transmission Plan, marking a significant step in the state’s renewable energy transition.

The Victorian Transmission Plan sets out the transmission infrastructure the state needs to build over the next 15 years to ensure all Victorians have access to safe, reliable and affordable power.

It also proposes the creation of six renewable energy zones (REZs) that signal to the community, landholders and industry where wind and solar projects and batteries for storage should be developed.

VicGrid’s role is to balance the need for new renewable projects that will deliver reliable and affordable power as coal closes and at the same time minimise impacts on landholders, Traditional Owners, communities, agriculture, the environment and power bills.

VicGrid has assessed all feedback received after the draft Victorian Transmission Plan was released in May 2025. The plan now includes zones that have expanded, had new sections added and areas removed.

Not all community or industry requests have been adopted, and VicGrid said the Transmission Plan reflects difficult choices, made by weighing up many factors to deliver a plan that best serves all Victorians.

You can view the 2025 Victorian Transmission Plan and more information, including the proposed location of zones, on the VicGrid website.
