More Victorian apartment residents will be able to access the benefits of renewable energy, with the State Government extending the second round of the Solar for Apartments program and opening eligibility criteria to include strata townhouses and units.
Apartment residents and body corporates now have until 28 February 2025 to submit their applications.
Successful applicants will receive rebates of up to $2800 per apartment, or up to $140,000 per building for up to 50 units to install solar panels on their rooftop, helping them save money on the up-front cost of installing solar.
The Solar for Apartments program is co-funded by the Victorian and Federal Governments and will deliver up to 10,000 solar rebates for Victorians living in apartments, units and townhouses.
During the first round of the program, Solar Victoria received more than 400 applications from Owners Corporations, covering more than 5000 apartments. More than half of approved applications are occupied by renters.
The Victorian Government said round two has already received more than 80 applications from Owners Corporations covering over 1500 lots.
Applications have been spread across metropolitan Melbourne, with the highest number of initial applications coming from the local government areas of the City of Merri-bek, City of Port Phillip, and City of Yarra.
Victorian Minister for Energy and Resources, Lily D’Ambrosio, said, “We’re making it easier for Victorians that live in apartments to install solar – so they can slash their power bills by $500 and help us cut emissions.
“This extension will give Victorian apartment residents more time to work with their body corporates and get their applications in for the popular solar for apartments program.”
