As Australia continues to transform its energy system, battery storage remains critical to harnessing the full power of renewables.
As such, batteries were a hot topic in 2024, with progress on existing projects, new investments and rebates to encourage household battery uptake all piquing the interests of our readers.
Here, we round up Energy’s top trending battery articles of 2024.
The most read storage story on the Energy website in 2024 was the Queensland Government’s February announcement of the Battery Booster program, which offered rebates of up to $4000 to about 2000 eligible households to install a solar battery system.
The second most popular battery story of the year was the installation of the first battery units at Synergy’s $1.6 billion Collie BESS (battery energy storage system) in October. The project was completed soon after in November, going live ahead of schedule.
In November, our readers were interested in the new vanadium flow battery installed in Kununurra, as part of a trial being conducted by the Western Australian Government and Horizon Power.
The fourth most read story on our website was the January announcement of a $179 investment by the Queensland Government to deliver 12 new local network-connected batteries and two new flow batteries as stage three and four of its local network-connected batteries program.
Last, but certainly not least, out fifth most popular story of the year focused on the Northern Territory Government’s increasing the Home and Business Battery Scheme bonus increasing from $5000 to $12,000 in a move to increase access to renewables, lower energy bills and support local solar and battery businesses.
