The Tasmanian Government has released a statewide campaign to ensure property owners with solar energy systems have them regularly inspected and maintained for efficiency and safety.
Consistent exposure to weather, including UV from sunlight, rain and wind, causes solar energy system components to deteriorate or become damaged over time. This creates an electrical and fire safety risk.
Dust and debris also gradually build up on solar panels and this may affect how the system performs.
Regular inspections and maintenance of solar energy systems will ensure that any issues are identified and fixed early, before they pose a risk or cause other problems which can be expensive to fix.
The maintenance of electrical installations in Tasmania, including solar energy systems, must be done by a licensed electrician.
The campaign is currently underway, with more than 40,000 households to receive direct communication over the coming months from Consumer Building and Occupational Services (CBOS).
