The Federal Government has announced the appointment of a new Chair to the Snowy Hydro Board, to serve a three-year term.

James Cain will commence in his role as Chair and Non-Executive Director of the Snowy Hydro Board on 1 March 2025.

Mr Cain has 30 years of experience in property, infrastructure, and major capital works in the public and private sectors and is a current Director of Inland Rail and Non-Executive Director at Mirvac.

The Federal Government said the appointment will support Snowy to deliver on its major projects, crucial to nation’s reliable renewable energy transformation.

The Federal Government thanked outgoing Chair, David Knox, for his service over the past five years including on the Snowy 2.0 reset.

Federal Minister for Finance, Katy Gallagher, said, “Snowy 2.0 is one of the most complex engineering projects in the world and we are thrilled to have someone of Mr Cain’s experience on board as it moves closer to completion.

“I’d also like to thank Mr Knox for his contribution to this vital project,” she said.

Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen, said the Federal Government is delivering an energy system Australians deserve, including Snowy 2.0, which will provide enough renewable energy and storage to power 3 million homes a week.

“Mr Cain’s decades of experience working on infrastructure projects in the public and private sector makes him an excellent choice to drive this project for the benefit of all Australians.”
