The Queensland Government’s newly appointed Renewable Energy Jobs Advocate has commenced in the role to provide advice to the government and champion future jobs in the state’s renewable energy sector.

Aaron Johnstone will work with regional communities and stakeholders, industry and First Nations peoples as part of the role as Queensland continues its clean energy transformation.

His responsibilities will include providing strategic advice to government and key stakeholders, engaging with energy infrastructure proponents and promoting new job opportunities in regional Queensland.

Additionally, Mr Johnstone will advise on the benefits renewable energy projects can deliver, particularly for regional Queensland.

Mr Johnstone has previously held roles with Cement Concrete and Aggregates Australia, Australian Industry Group and is the founder of Interact Policy and Industry Solutions.

His appointment is a commitment under the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan.

Queensland Minister for Energy and Clean Economy Jobs, Mick de Brenni, said that Mr Johnstone’s appointment represents a significant step in the plan.

“Aaron will work closely with industry, unions, councils and First Nations communities to support employment, the development of local workforce, and encourage investment and community support as Queensland continues on its transition to renewables.

“I’d like to congratulate Aaron on his appointment of this landmark role for jobs in our clean energy sector and look forward to working with him as the State Government progresses Queensland’s energy transformation.”

Mr Johnstone said that he is delighted to be appointed as the first Queensland Renewable Energy Jobs Advocate.

“I am passionate about the importance of a fair and prosperous transition for Queensland in its renewable energy journey, and in ensuring benefits are shared across workers, communities, and First Nations’ groups,” Mr Johnstone said.

“I look forward to working collaboratively with everyone involved in navigating this transition, and in making an important contribution to the state’s renewable energy future.”
