The Federal Government has launched a new phase of the Powering Forward campaign, which is focused on reducing power prices and helping Australians get a better energy deal.
Minister for Energy, Angus Taylor, said, “Already the big energy companies have been forced to provide a better deal to more than 458,000 people thanks to pressure from our Government.
“AGL, Energy Australia, and Origin Energy, along with other retailers, have heard the Government’s calls, and cut their prices for customers on standing offers by up to 15 per cent.
“We urge other energy companies to follow the lead of these companies and act in the interest of their customers.”
The Federal Government’s action plan to reduce energy prices includes:
- Creating a price safety net to protect customers and remove the loyalty tax
- Backing investment in reliable generation to improve competition, lower prices and guarantee reliable supply
- Supporting reliable power by requiring energy companies to sign contracts guaranteeing enough energy to meet demand
