Bellevue Gold is celebrating a landmark milestone at its namesake gold mine in Western Australia, where the site was able to run entirely on renewables for 155 consecutive hours.
Zenith Energy operates the site’s 90-megawatt (MW) hybrid power station, which comprises solar (27MW), wind (24MW), battery storage (15MW/33MWh) and thermal back-up.
“This is a significant milestone, not only for the project, but for what is possible in the Australian energy sector and demonstrating nation-leading progress in renewable energy for remote mining operations,” Zenith Energy said in a LinkedIn post.
The hybrid power station is designed to meet at least 80 per cent of the operation’s energy needs, with performance exceeding this baseline because of favourable weather conditions.

Bellevue Gold became the world’s first gold mine to hit net zero Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions in the first half of 2025. This was achieved through on-site renewable generation and the purchasing and surrendering of carbon credits including Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCU).
The gold miner is also exploring the potential to produce ‘green gold’ – a sustainable product that attracts a premium price.
“This presents a competitive advantage and an additional revenue opportunity for Bellevue Gold,” the company said in its 2025 Sustainability Report.
“To support the sale of ‘green gold’, we are pursuing independent, third-party verification of GHG emissions associated with our gold production.”
The company said it’s working with refining partner – ABC Refinery – and its downstream customers to understand the appetite for this product.
