Endeavour energy has now completed its first community battery stream, with the launch of a new battery in East Bowral.

Endeavour Energy joined Wingecarribee Shire Council Councillor, Therese Duffy, to launch the East Bowral Community Battery – offering local residents a shared energy solution that delivers cleaner, more affordable electricity.

The launch marks the completion of Endeavour Energy’s initial community battery stream, which has delivered ten batteries across Bargo, Blair Athol, Cambewarra, St Georges Basin and more. It forms part of Endeavour Energy’s broader rollout of community batteries that also includes 44 community batteries across six suburbs through the Commonwealth Government’s Community Batteries for Household Solar program. An additional 32 batteries across 27 suburbs are now being delivered with support from ARENA.

Endeavour Energy General Manager, Future Grid & Asset Management, Colin Crisafulli, said community batteries are helping customers save on electricity bills while supporting the transition to a cleaner energy future.

“Community batteries make the transition to clean energy more inclusive and affordable for everyone – whether you own your home, rent, or live in an apartment, all households can ‘rent a portion’ of the battery to save money on their overall electricity bill,” he said.

“Community batteries also help reduce the overall cost of running the electricity network and enable us to manage solar energy safely and efficiently.”

Origin Energy will provide the platform for customers to participate in the battery trial and will also manage the energy stored in the battery.

Origin Head of Network and Community Batteries, David Gilligan, said Origin encourages East Bowral residents to register their interest and find out how a community battery could help them save money.

“Communities batteries are a great way for households to share the benefits of battery storage – whether they have solar panels or not – and harness more renewable energy,” he said.
