Hydro Tasmania has welcomed new CEO Rachel Watson, who has now officially taken the reins after being appointed in December 2024.

Ms Watson’s appointment followed the resignation of previous CEO, Ian Brooksbank, in October 2024.

Ms Watson was previously the Country Manager for OX2 Australia, where she led the development of renewable energy projects across the nation.

As CEO of Pacific Hydro Australia, Ms Watson played a pivotal role in driving the growth of hydro, solar and wind power projects. Ms Watson’s leadership extended to her time as chair of the Clean Energy Council, where she championed the transition to renewable energy across the country.

Hydro Tasmania said Ms Watson’s expertise spans infrastructure development, retail, finance, and legal, giving her a comprehensive understanding of the energy industry’s complexities.

She has also been named in The Australian’s list of 100 Green Power Players, a testament to her influence and contributions to clean energy.

Hydro Tasmania welcomed Ms Watson, and extended thanks to Executive General Manager of Strategy, Erin van Maanen, who has been acting in the role of CEO for six months, leading the business through a particularly busy time.

Ms Watson said she’s excited to officially be at Hydro Tasmania.

“I have always deeply admired both the legacy and the future opportunities for Hydro Tasmania, and I am absolutely thrilled to be joining such an iconic organisation,” she said.
