The ACT Government has provided $700,000 in funding to a cyber security training facility to address the growing demands of cyber security.

The funding will help industry meet the estimated 20,000 job shortages nationwide in cyber security over the next 10 years. This announcement furthers Canberra’s leadership in this key growth industry of the future.

Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) Reid has fast-tracked curriculum development and already trained 168 students since March 2018 to fuel this high-growth sector.

The addition of the Training Security Operations Centre (TSOC) will enhance student experience with a simulated workplace for real-world skills development. Integral to the facility is the interactive virtual cybersecurity platform Penteract, created by local firm by Fifth Domain, which is designed to simulate real cyber security threats.

The TSOC facility has been funded by Austcyber and the ACT Government and is a collaboration between CIT, local firm Nova Systems, Fifth Domain, and ANU.

The TSOC further positions the ACT as the driver of contemporary cyber security training both nationally and globally. Capability within the facility will allow start-ups to showcase and test their new products to clients and will help future-proof government and business through the upskilling of employees in cyber security training.
