The WA Energy Minister, Bill Johnston, has announced the appointment of two new members to the Board of Western Power.

Guy Chalkley and Kathryn Barrie will join Western Power’s Board.

Mr Chalkley’s appointment is recognition of his performance in managing Western Power since his appointment as CEO in 2016. The appointment reflects his previous contribution to board level discussions and his extensive financial management knowledge from across a range of sectors and continents.

Ms Barrie joins the Western Power Board bringing almost 18 years of experience from energy and education in the Western Australian State Government, including from her current senior role at the WA Department of Treasury (Public Utilities Office).

Mr Chalkley will remain in his position at Western Power but, due to his appointment to the board, his title will change from Chief Executive Officer to Managing Director.

The appointment of Ms Barrie will also see the Western Power board maintain its 50 per cent female representation.

“On behalf of the State Government, I would like to congratulate Mr Chalkley and Ms Barrie on their appointments,” Minister Johnston said.

“I believe Ms Barrie and Mr Chalkley’s experience and knowledge will be a valuable addition to the Board and will continue to enhance the strong governance of Western Power.”

“I have no doubt that the refreshed Board will continue to help shape the utility to deliver the energy needs of Western Australians.

“Both Mr Chalkley and Ms Barrie have outstanding records of evaluating opportunities in the energy sector to deliver the best outcomes, both financially and practically, for customers in WA.”
