The Federal Government has included Marinus Link on its first-ever national renewable energy priority list.
Projects selected for the National Renewable Energy Priority List (Priority List) support progress towards 82 per cent renewable electricity by 2030.
The Federal Government collaborated with states and territories to create the Priority List, with 56 projects identified nationally, consisting of 24 transmission and 32 generation and storage projects.
Marinus Link Pty Ltd Interim CEO, Dr Collette Burke, said the Marinus Link project is an enabler of Australia’s clean energy transition.
“Marinus Link will facilitate investment in renewable energy,” Dr Burke said.
“It will promote the expansion of renewable energy generation in Victoria and Tasmania, including onshore and offshore wind generation and access to clean dispatchable capacity in the Tasmanian hydropower system.
“This will help Australia meet its emissions reduction targets by reducing the emissions intensity of the electricity grid, while also delivering reliable and clean energy to consumers across all regions in the National Electricity Market.
“In addition, Marinus Link will use advanced converter technology at both ends of the link to stabilise and enable the integration of more renewables into the grid.”
Projects identified on the Priority List will receive additional support and facilitation through regulatory and environmental processes. They will still have the same scrutiny applied as any other project and continue to be required to meet all statutory requirements.
The Federal Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water collaborated with states and territories through the Energy and Climate Change Ministerial Council to create the Priority List.
