Ninety-six sections of wind turbine towers are on their way from Burnie port to Granville Harbour Wind Farm in the latest stage of the $2 billion wind farm investment program in Tasmania.

The transport of the towers marks a milestone in the Tasmania First energy policy to make the state fully renewable-energy self-sufficient and have the lowest regulated power prices by 2022.

Granville Harbour is being developed with an investment of $280 million and is supporting some 200 jobs during construction, with ten more to continue on an ongoing basis once operational.

The 52 metre-long, 6.1 metre-high components are some of the largest road-based movements ever seen in Tasmania and will be escorted by State Growth Transport Safety Officers.
