The Net Zero Economy Authority has opened consultation on the Torrens Island Power Station, which is set to close in June 2026.

This consultation process is part of an assessment led by the Net Zero Economy Authority to determine if the Energy Industry Jobs Plan should be implemented for the closure.

The assessment process seeks to understand how workers and businesses will be impacted by the closure, what supports and other employment opportunities exist for workers in the region, and how an Energy Industry Jobs Plan could support the transition for workers and the local community.

Net Zero Economy Authority CEO, David Shankey, said the Energy Industry Jobs Plan has been designed to ensure workers at closing power stations can access the supports they need to transition following a closure.

“It establishes a framework for employers to provide transition supports to their workforce, and establishes a program where the Net Zero Economy Authority will actively connect workers to new job opportunities in their region based on their skills and experiences.

“Many generators are already providing transition supports for their workers. The Energy Industry Jobs Plan is implemented where it is needed, and the consultation process we’ve launched today is an important step in coming to that decision.”

As part of this, the Authority said it is launching a public consultation process supported by a consultation paper to hear from those impacted by the closure.

Alongside this public consultation process, the Net Zero Economy Authority will also be engaging directly with key stakeholders in Adelaide in early 2025, including owners of the power station, AGL, unions, workers, and other businesses in the area.

Submissions close at 5pm AEDT on 21 February 2025.
