Karyn Downs from Endeavour Energy has won the Woman in a Non-Traditional Trade or Vocation Award at the 2019 NSW Training Awards.
Karyn progressed to the NSW Training Awards after winning the 2019 South West Sydney Region Apprentice of the Year in July.
Karyn said “I am thrilled to accept this award. I was determined to do well in my apprenticeship after I was told working in the electricity supply industry was not a job well suited to a young woman. I wanted to prove the doubters wrong.
“My apprenticeship was challenging but also incredibly rewarding. I’ve been surrounded by a great team, received top flight training and been encouraged at every turn.
“I am looking forward to continuing to learn and develop my skills in my current role as a line worker and cable jointer at Endeavour Energy’s Narellan Field Support Centre.”
Endeavour Energy’s Interim Chief Executive Officer, Leanne Pickering, was there to support Karyn at the awards night amongst a highly competitive field across all apprentice categories in NSW.
“We are incredibly proud of Karyn’s success. Her exemplary performance, work ethic and values deserve to be recognised,” Ms Pickering said.
“Karyn is a great ambassador for Endeavour Energy. Endeavour Energy has a long tradition of training the best and brightest apprentices. We’re very proud to equip our next generation of power workers with the best training in NSW.
“With the right commitment and work ethic, our apprentices can look forward to an interesting and challenging career in a rapidly changing industry.
“We’re committed to fostering a diverse and supportive workplace where people of all ages and backgrounds can achieve their potential and contribute to Endeavour Energy’s business success.
“In an industry first, women made up half our most recent apprenticeship intake after a highly competitive selection process.”
The NSW Training Awards are held annually by Training Services NSW to recognise outstanding achievement in the vocational education and training sector.
