EDMI and Bluecurrent are extending a partnership that has spanned more than two decades, continuing a collaboration that has delivered a large-scale intelligent grid deployment across Australia.

The renewed partnership will see EDMI – a global energy solutions leader – integrate its grid and edge intelligence solutions powered by its NEOS platform to bolster multi-utility revenue metering, outage management, and distributed energy resource management (DERMS).

Bluecurrent will be at the forefront of deploying these solutions in the energy market, driving the continued evolution of connected, interoperable energy infrastructure across Australia and New Zealand.

“Partnering with Bluecurrent allows us to extend our multi-utility intelligence platform deeper across the region,” EDMI group chief executive officer Roy Kirsopp said.

“Connected metering infrastructure is the foundation of the energy transition, empowering utilities to measure more, understand faster, and act with confidence. Together, we’re scaling the next generation of intelligent grids.”

Bluecurrent acting chief executive Richard Fink echoed Kirsopp’s sentiment.

“This long-term partnership gives us the flexibility, reliability, and digital confidence we need as the smart meter rollout accelerates across Australia,” he said.

“Continuing to work with EDMI reinforces our ability to continue serving our customers securely, efficiently, and sustainably as the industry embraces intelligent grid technologies.”

It comes as Australia enters a new phase of regulatory reform, where in November 2024, the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) published a final determination under the Accelerating smart meter deployment rule change to enact an “efficient rollout of smart meters to all customers by 2030”.

This has been driven by an improved metering framework in the National Electricity Rules (NER) and National Energy Retail Rules (NERR).

The partnership between EDMI and Bluecurrent lays the digital foundations for a smarter energy future.

“This partnership underscores a shared commitment to supporting utilities, regulators, and consumers through the energy transition, combining EDMI’s intelligent grid expertise and proven technology with Bluecurrent’s market leadership and operational excellence,” a joint statement from EDMI and Bluecurrent said.
