Genus will design and construct the 100MW BESS (battery energy storage system) in Merredin, under a new $65 million contract awarded by Atmos Renewables.

Located in Western Australia’s Wheatbelt, the four-hour Merredin BESS is expected to enhance grid reliability and support the Western Australian Electricity Market as renewable generation increases.

Adjacent to the Merredin Solar Farm, the project will be delivered over an 18-month period, set to commence once Genus receives a notice to proceed. Completion is expected in early 2027.

Under the contract, Genus will oversee the design, procurement, installation and civil works for the project, engaging more than 70 personnel and drawing on significant local content from Western Australia.

Genus said the contract builds on the company’s growing momentum in the renewable energy transition space, further expanding its capability and presence in the BESS market.

Genus Managing Director, David Riches, said, “We’re proud to be delivering this flagship project with Atmos Renewables.

“It’s a testament to our delivery capability and the trust our partners place in us as we continue to grow as a genuine force in the renewables sector.”
