The Bulli Creek Solar Project – set to be Australia’s largest grid-connected solar farm – has selected an owner’s engineer for Stage 1.

Renewable energy and storage developer, Genex, is developing the multi-stage development project and has selected Arup as its Owner’s Engineer.

The project is set to deliver up to 2GW of large-scale solar and battery energy storage system capacity, located approximately 45km south-west of Millmerran in Queensland.

The Bulli Creek Clean Energy Park covers an area of approximately 5,000ha and is adjacent to Powerlink’s 330kV Bulli Creek Substation. The site crucially has ample grid connection capacity, strong projected marginal loss factors, and serves as the connection point for the Queensland-NSW Interconnector (QNI).

A global multidisciplinary firm, Arup’s project team brings together extensive expertise in renewable energy as well as civil, geotechnical, planning and environmental experience in major infrastructure projects.

Arup Project Director, Ian Hustwick, said that the team is excited to be working with Genex on developing vital infrastructure for supporting Australia’s energy transition.

“Arup’s energy business is focussed on developing and growing the technology systems of the future and contributing to more rapid decarbonisation,” Mr Hustwick said.

“The Bulli Creek Solar Project embodies our commitment to creating the energy supply chains that will power a net zero world.”

Genex Project Director, Tallaesen Fleming, said that he is excited to be a part of the development of the Bulli Creek Clean Energy Park.

“Not only will it harness the power of the sun to provide clean energy for thousands of homes, but it will also set a high standard for environmental stewardship and innovation in the energy sector,” Mr Fleming said.

“This project exemplifies our dedication to creating a greener future, reducing carbon footprints, and driving economic growth through renewable technologies. We are proud to be at the forefront of this exciting industry and look forward to the positive impact it will have on the local community and state of Queensland.”
