Western Green Energy Hub Pty Ltd has submitted an application to upgrade its proposed Western Green Energy (WGEH) from 50GW to 70GW of zero-emissions electricity, generated by harnessing the state’s solar and wind resources.

The project includes the design, construction and operation of a large-scale wind and solar energy and renewable hydrogen production project in the far southeast of Western Australia, approximately 440km east of Kalgoorlie and to the immediate northwest of Eucla.

It will be located within a 2.9 million hectare development on unallocated Crown Land and pastoral leases within WA Mirning Native Title determined land.

The onshore components of the proposal will comprise up to 3000 wind turbines and approximately 35 solar PV farms and related infrastructure, in addition to hydrogen and ammonia production infrastructure, including – electrolysers, substations, compressors, data centres, transmission lines and storage facilities.

The proposed project will be built over a 30-year period, with a project life of up to 100 years.
