Windlab has released a report, shedding light on the country’s best performing wind farms.
The new report found that the Coonooer Bridge wind farm is the best performing in Australia this year.
ACT Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability, Shane Rattenbury, said, “It’s fantastic that Coonooer Bridge wind farm in Victoria, which commenced generating renewable electricity for the ACT in 2016, has been found to be a nation leader in its operation.”
“The report by Windlab, which tracked the capacity factor, or average power generation, of wind farms across the country, also found the Hornsdale 1 wind farm is another strong performer.
“Coonooer Bridge and Hornsdale 1 were among the first wind farms to be successful in the ACT’s innovative reverse auctions for providing large-scale wind and solar-generated electricity. The fact they are performing so well shows we did our due diligence in partnering with wind farms based in good locations.”
Mr Rattenbury said the nation’s climate action capital is well on track to achieve 100 per cent renewable electricity by 2020.
“Several of our wind farms are now online, with others like Crookwell 2 and Hornsdale 2 starting to feed electricity into the grid in September and December respectively. This will bring our renewable electricity generation to about 85 per cent.
“As well as being environmentally-friendly, the wind farms are also helping the ACT have some of the lowest electricity prices in Australia. The wind farm projects are also creating local business, research and educational opportunities,” Mr Rattenbury said.
