Charles Sturt University (CSU) has completed Australia’s largest single-site solar panel installation which will provide 20 per cent of the power needs for CSU in Wagga Wagga.

Key points of the project include:

  • University certified as Australia’s first Carbon Neutral University in 2016
  • The solar photovoltaic installation includes panels on the rooftops of 17 buildings
  • The system will have a total generation capacity of 1.77 megawatts
  • Will provide approximately 20 per cent of the power needs for CSU in Wagga Wagga

CSU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andrew Vann, has congratulated everyone involved with the project and signalled the launch of the project as a significant milestone for Charles Sturt University.

“The Solar PV project highlights and enhances our reputation as the leading higher education institution committed to sustainability,” Professor Vann said.

Manager of CSU Green, Ed Maher, indicated that the cost savings of the project were substantial and provides evidence to other businesses that the time is right to invest in renewable energy.

“The energy the university will create for itself will reduce the need to rely so heavily on the electricity network, and is part of our contribution to being a leader in carbon neutrality,” Mr Maher said.

The system is valued at over $3.2 million and was constructed over six months and completed in October 2017.
