AGL and Someva Renewables have announced a joint venture to develop Pottinger Energy Park, to be located within the New South Wales gazetted South West Renewable Energy Zone (REZ).
The Pottinger Energy Park is expected to consist of a 1.2GW wind farm, 300MW solar farm and 500MW/2000MWh battery energy storage system.
The proposed park location is 60km south of Hay and 75km north of Deniliquin in New South Wales.
The project is in the early stages of development with preliminary community engagement and planning application underway.
AGL Chief Operating Officer, Markus Brokhof, said the proposed project and partnership with Someva Renewables would represent a significant development in AGL’s renewable and firming portfolio build-out as the company transitions to a renewable future.
“We are exploring the development of a significant wind, solar and battery project at the Pottinger Energy Park as we seek to accelerate options to develop projects that will contribute to our ambition of adding 12GW of new renewable generation and firming capacity to our portfolio by the end of 2035,” Mr Brokhof said.
“As we progress our plans in partnership with Someva, we will engage regularly with the local community, Traditional Owners, and business and environmental groups to understand their feedback to assist us to develop a project that will benefit the region.”
Someva Renewables Managing Director, Jamie Chivers, said, “The Pottinger Energy Park could play an important role in New South Wales’s energy transition by providing reliable renewable energy for up to 830,000 average New South Wales homes while also delivering an economic boost to the Riverina.
“As part of our co-design process, Someva has been engaging with the local community for more than two years. During this time, we’ve been buoyed by the support the Pottinger Energy Park has received from local landowners, Traditional Owners, local businesses, local councils and the broader community. We’re excited to be working with AGL on this project and look forward to delivering an industry leading renewable energy project for New South Wales,” Mr Chivers said.
Someva Renewables, a 100 per cent Australian owned renewable energy developer, is leading the design, community engagement and regulatory approval process for the Pottinger Energy Park development.
If approved, construction on the Pottinger Energy Park could commence in 2026, potentially creating up to 800 construction jobs and 60 ongoing jobs through operation.
