The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) has released new information on its wholesale electricity monitoring.

The report is set to guide the first comprehensive long-term monitoring report of wholesale market and aims to help inform advice to the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Energy Council on the effectiveness of competition and the efficient operation of the National Electricity Market.

The report stems from a discussion paper published in August 2017 that outlined options for how the AER would approach wholesale market monitoring and the submissions generated by this.

A staff working paper has also been released by the AER on the 2018 Approach to Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE). The paper contains technical discussion around the expected use of LCOE and its limitations, and the AER is currently inviting comments from stakeholders on the paper.
