The second round of Western Australia’s clean energy funding program is now open for schools to apply for solar panel installations.
Through the Western Australian Government’s $44.6 million Schools Clean Energy Technology Fund, solar panels and virtual power plants are being installed at public schools across the state over four years.
Applications for round two of the program are now open, with successful schools to receive a solar energy system to meet the energy needs of the school population.
Western Australian Education and Training Minister, Sue Ellery, said as the state’s largest employer, and a major influencer of young people, the Department of Education has an important role in promoting sustainability in the community.
“We are committed to making changes and funding new initiatives that reduce the impact that schools have on the environment,” Ms Ellery said.
“I encourage eligible schools to apply for round two of the Schools Clean Energy Technology Fund, which enables schools to save money while having a positive environmental impact.
“The fund also provides opportunities for students to learn how to be more energy efficient and contribute to making a positive difference in climate change action.”
The fund is already helping 91 schools to become more energy efficient through renewable electricity that reduces their costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
Schools without existing solar installations and with high energy use can apply for the energy-saving scheme in future funding rounds.
Successful schools will be announced in the last week of Term 2, 2022.
